As if they knew it was my last day, the Dolphins stayed and played in the Honaunau-Napoopoo bay the entire day. I had many close encounters and sometimes the camera was ready too.
Three days of snorkling before heading back home. Plenty of encounters with dolphins, turtles and fish of all kinds. Life is rich.
We were drifting with the tide together this beautiful friend and I one morning at Honaunau-Napoopoo bay. Time stood still for a while.

A second ride with pink “Barbie”, Lee Hefner and Dhiana. The whales came really close this time and the day was beautiful. You can clearly see on the coast line where the lava once floated down into the ocean.
My camera has no zoom and I can´t see what I´m shooting, so it´s a bit of a challenge. The gift is that it teaches me to dive, I keep going deeper and closer, sometimes I´m possibly even elegant.
I´ve always been fascinated by water life and aquariums. But I never really wanted one for myself. Now I see why; I was longing to be in one – not to have one.
The ocean is murky, someone said “shark water”. I learned my lesson when realizing I was swimming round in circles and drifting with the waves. I followed the dolphins example and went home to spend the day creating this Blog instead, enjoying the fresh air and sounds from the heavy rains and winds outside.
A sunny day with coral reeves and a black sand beach. The water reflections in the bottom are thrilling.
The sunsets are simply astonishing and each one completely unique. Nothing more to say.
The advanced level two training with Haunani Hopkins is a deep and therapeutic work, also adressing injuries and physical traumas. Besides the body work we were pounding “Poi” and cooking “Lau Lau”, we went on a canoe trip and studied the Ho’oponopono prayer, ending with a ceremony at sunset. Most of all we laughed a lot. Miss Skelly had severe trouble loosing her limbs all the time, being so released.
My first real day in the ocean I am lucky to meet these beautiful friends at Kealakekua Bay. The dolphins are playing with the red leaves Mike Jacobson – a diving instructor and organizor of upscale boat trips and my swim guide for the day – is placing out for them. Just nearby I can hear a singing whale that went out of sight just a few moments before we came into the water.
Honaunau-Napoopoo bay is also called two-step because of the two large stones offering a perfect spot to enter the ocean. Very helpful for a beginner like me with fins, camera, mask and snorkel to handle. The corals and fish are both plenty and colorful. Some days the dolphins decide to come over too.
Four days of traditional Lomi Lomi teaching with Haunani Hopkins, a diciple of Aunty Margaret Machado. We are practicing this slow, very deep and concious body work along with Hawaiian prayers and chants, cooking Vegan Pad Tai for lunch and visiting the Amy Greenwell´s garden for Hawaiian historical knowledge.
And, no, I didn´t buy the Corvette.
A boat trip with Lee Hefner – a fisherman, tour guide and surfer with much experience and profound knowledge of the ocean – and Dhiana as our guides. The whales were many and some came really close. Spite rolling waves and much excitement I managed to catch a few of them with the camera.
After some 28 hours of journeying, followed by a rental car pick-up and driving through unknown territory in the middle of the night (going way too far and missing every possible turn at least once), this is where I found myself waking up in the morning. “The Goddess Sanctuary” in the middle of what feels like a jungle is an amazing place to stay and Dhiana is a host of a kind.
